Data cabling refers to cables that are used for connecting your computer to a network. These are also known as patch leads, patch cables, or just leads. The earliest networks were based on copper cables. These have now been largely replaced by wireless connections.

It is no secret that data cabling has been growing at a rapid pace in the past few years. Due to the tremendous growth of our client’s businesses, our data cabling services have also been increasing at a substantial rate.

There are a variety of types of commercial data cable, each with distinct properties. The two most important considerations in choosing a type of data cable are the performance and the cost.

Data cables come in three basic varieties: twisted pair, coaxial, and fiber optic.

  • Twisted-pair cables are the oldest and cheapest variety. These cables consist of two or more wires that are twisted around each other to help reduce interference from external sources.
  • Coaxial cables use a single wire inside a metallic shield to protect the wire from external interference.
  • Fiber optic cables use light signals transmitted through glass fibers to transmit data from one point to another.

Many factors can affect a data cable’s quality and performance, but the two most important factors are the bandwidth and the transmission speed.

Bandwidth is a measure of how much information can be transmitted at one time through a network connection, while transmission speed measures how fast the signal travels across the network connection.

A high-quality data cable will have both high bandwidth and high transmission speed, as these two qualities go hand-in-hand with each other.

The best commercial data cable is a Cat6 cable. It is the most common and durable cable that can be found in commercial or industrial applications. Cat6 can transfer a maximum speed of 1 gigabit per second.
